HUMBLE is an advanced expert system building tool that runs entirelywithin the Smalltalk-80 environment. Rules and data definitions can beadded to create expert systems for specific problems. HUMBLE meets theneeds of many diverse applications because it is easily modified andextended.Features include an inference engine capable of forward and backwardchaining, reasoning under uncertainty, multiple contexts, and fullexplanation. HUMBLE also includes an integrated knowledge-base editor,two demonstration knowledge bases, a graphical rule browser, executionand debugging environments, and a complete programmer's interface.Full source code is provided with the package. Input and output can beredirected to a user-generated interface package, if desired. Thecertainty model that HUMBLE uses to make decisions can be altered.
